Prea Kaur

Literary Arts – Poet and Editor 

Dr Prea Kaur is a poet and educator. She is the editor-in-chief of Interview, and she was the poetry editor of Hencroft Hub. 

Prea G. Kaur completed a creative-writing PhD at Keele University funded by the AHRC. Her unpublished first collection focuses on her family’s oral histories, the legacy of colonialism and trans-generational trauma. Previously her PhD research centred on the experimental and political work of William S. Burroughs and Jeff Nuttall. 


Prea has an Undergraduate and a Masters degree from Keele across English and American literature, creative writing and film. She  is the co-founder of The Black Cats Art Collective which aims to make art more accessible. She won the 2020 Mslexia unpublished poem prize. Her work can also be found in Swim Press and Visual Verse.

Prea has been a facilitator for Speak Up, a nationwide National Theatre schools programme that aims to inspire a movement of young people to speak up about the issues that matter to them. (Link- https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/news/speak-up-symposium-exhibition/


In 2021 Prea Kaur was commissioned by Arts Keele to write the promotional film for the Three Counties Exhibition.  This exhibition offers a platform for artists based in Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire.  Prea has a keen interest in visual art and curated ‘The Body and I’ an exhibition that examined and explored body negativity and positivity as well as the minds relationship to bodies and food. Working alongside Kwanzaa Collective artist and Black British portrait photographer Adina Lawrence, The Body and I shared stories of struggle, resilience, and power against our own darkest thoughts.
